Move Rolla TDD Partners and Previous Studies

The City of Rolla, Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Missouri S&T and MoDOT represent the core study team working together to implement the Move Rolla Strategy. The program’s tasks build on the previous activities from projects such as Move Rolla Transportation Strategy and the Missouri S&T Transit Feasibility Study.

Vision for Move Rolla TDD

Develop a transportation system that meets the needs of all people and modes and promotes a safe, healthy community and economic opportunities for the next 20 years.

History

Since the mid-1990’s the City of Rolla and MoDOT have been studying a variety of major transportation improvements to the area’s primary transportation system – Hwy 63/Bishop Ave, Hwy 72, Kingshighway (Bus Hwy 72) and Interstate 44. In 2002 MoDOT completed an Environmental Impact Statement which evaluated a number of alternatives to a “Rolla by-pass.” The Rolla City Council gave an endorsement of the EIS focusing primarily on upgrades to existing corridors with a new Hwy. 72 extension between I-44 and US 63 and ultimately a 5th I-44 interchange south of the existing Kingshighway Interchange.
